Why is the name of the site The Hanafuda Times? Well before I can explain that, a brief history lesson is in order. This site is a Nintendo News site; Nintendo, maker of video game hardware and software. Did you know they’ve been around since September 23, 1889? You’re probably thinking, “But Video Games haven’t been around nearly as long.” That’s because Nintendo didn’t always make Video Games.

Hanafuda Playing Cards

Nintendo used to make Japanese playing cards, named “Hanafuda.” In fact, Nintendo has existed longer as a card maker, than it has an electronics maker. Of course, the Hanafuda was phased out, to make room for you know, Video Games. Still, I think something can be learned from Nintendo’s past craft. And of course, God knows I have a soft spot for nostalgia.

At the Hanafuda Times, you’ll receive the latest Nintendo News, as well as Video Game Industry News pertinent to Nintendo. And of course, there will be lots of offbeat stories of fan tribute, humor, and of course, the downright strange. Nintendo does attract some of the strangest fans.
