Metroid Other M – New Info

-Speed upgrades increase the rate of the charge beam.
-The game is mostly gameplay NOT cinematics. As in, an hour or more stretches without a single cutscene.
-That said, there will be small real-time cutscenes (similar to Prime), but these seem to be thinly placed.
-You cannot skip cutscenes.(Not sure about successive play-throughs though)
-You can dodge while in first person.
-Deactivating holographic generators reveals new areas to explore.
-The music seems to be mostly atmospheric, but should include lots of remixes.
-The auto-aim function can hit enemies from very far away, but missiles have a limited range.
-Samus turns slowly in first person.
-There will be sequences that can result in instant-death (such as one involving an elevator).
-There are both save points and continue points. Continue points occur more frequently, and usually right next to difficult sequences

Ubisoft Thinks Hands Free Gaming is The Future

“I think [the future is] all about having no controller in your hands…The Wii was obviously the first step in that direction – a controller that looks like a remote control – but I think the future is about having a complete hands-free solution for the living room.” - Ubisoft’s internal “Kinect expert” Frederic Blais.

Egh. I don’t think I’m ready for the hands free future. Even the Wiimote makes you hold it. I haven’t tried Kinect, so it’s not too fair for me to say. Still, I like holding a control in my hands. Heck, I don’t even like gaming on a keyboard!

Sakurai Says Going back to 2D Will Be Difficult

“Yes this is indeed my first 3D game but I have a feeling that it’s going to be hard to go back [to 2D]…For example when you watch Avatar in 3D you take notice of the 3D element initially but then as the movie goes on you forget about the 3D novelty as your eyes get used to it and simply enjoy it for what it is…That’s the nature of the way we get used to things as they become familiar. The problem is that when you go back to 2D after 3D it feels flat. So in terms of game development I would think that going back to 2D after working on a 3D project may be very difficult for me.” -Masahiro Sakurai

Well sheesh. I’d hate it if Sakurai never made a 2D game ever again. Some of my favorite 2D games were helmed by Sakurai. If 3D games means we can’t have 2D games anymore, well, I don’t think I want ‘em. I think I’m panicking over nothing, 2D is here to stay even if 3D takes over.

Pokemon Black/White – Team Plasma Leader

I love the sound of that theme. I can’t tell if it’s new or not. Team Plasma. I wonder what their whole shindig is going to be.

Pokemon Black White – Old Pokemon not obtainable until after the game

Shucks, folks. I’m getting worried. Generation 4 had a similar premise. Thing is, a bunch of the cool new pokemon weren’t obtainable until after the main game either. Heck, if you wanted a fire type, you had to choose between Chimchar or catching a Ponyta. A Ponyta for christsakes! Ah well, look on the bright side: No swarms of geodudes and zubats.

XSeed and The Cute Factor

Cuuuuuute

“Zwei is a well-made charming game, but the retailers aren’t too crazy about the cutesy graphics, which makes our job a little more difficult.”-Xseed

Retailers are dumb. Cutsey games FTW. I much prefer a cutsey game than a game that uses various shades of brown and grey. The game market is fickle, and I guess they don’t like their imaginations stimulated. Ah well, more for me I guess. Keep the cutsey coming Xseed. You’ve got a loyal customer here.

Lady Talks Kid into Stealing Mom’s Drugs….For Video Games

New Hampshire. Tsk tsk tsk. I thought you were better than that! In fact, you’re supposed to be Vermont’s little brother, in what used to be the little pockets of sanity all along the east coast. Looks like even NH isn’t safe from sick people. A drug addict tried to get a kid to steal his mothers Percocet in exchange for a video game of his choice. Luckily for the mom, the kid, and the state of NH, the woman was caught. Somehow, I can still see Video Games scapegoated for this story….maybe. We’ll just have to wait and see the six o’clock news.

Iwata Says Wii 2 Will Be A Surprise

“Therefore, we basically disclose information on our products as late as possible. We believe this is the best approach for the entertainment products we are developing. Again, we are planning the next products for Nintendo’s continuous growth, but we cannot tell you what, when and how we will release it here. Thank you for your understanding.” -Satoru Iwata

That’s one thing about new Nintendo I despise. We don’t see anything new until it’s going to be out, usually months from the announcement. Ah well, at least when it is revealed we might have some knowledge of when it will be released. Unlike a little portable we’re all still waiting to know more about.

Pokemon Black/White – New Bug Type Pokemon Revealed

Sonic Color’s Producer says it’s impossible to please all Sonic Fans

“There are so many fans, each with their own unique first experience of the Sonic franchise, so I do understand that there are different Sonic fans in the world,” Iizuka explained. “It’s very hard – near-impossible, actually – to please everybody, but I believe that there are some constants in the franchise that we should always try to maintain.” -Sonic Colours producer Takashi Iizuka

Here’s a concept. Screw new Sonic fans. It’s not even Sonic! If they want to play a bad, corny, crappy-dialogue-driven catastrophe, they should try playing the new Crash Bandicoots. Then Sega can focus on making 2D Sonic’s the way they were meant to be. No voice acting. No cutscenes. And above all, no Big the Cat.
